Island Life

As I type this, we are without electricity and raining is falling steadily outside.  A hurricane is to come through within the next couple of days.  We spent the morning preparing at the guesthouse by removing everything from the lower shelves, lifting the beds up onto cement blocks, shutting windows, and clearing trash in the courtyard.  The guesthouse and clinic sit in a flood plain, and the drainage in the community is very poor.

And in personal news, we spent this past weekend with Nicole, Monchy and Madi up in Cabarete.  It is on the north coast.  It was our first vacation since we arrived at the beginning of June, and it was nice to turn off our devices for a few days and be off the grid.  The weather was beautiful.

I’ve been working on fall team details and getting things in order for student sponsorship photo updating.  When I’m not doing that, I’ve been enjoying a good book and watching the hummingbirds that visit our balcony every few minutes.

Jeff is still working on random things with the ministry trucks, there is always something to be fixed.  We recently started participating in a weekly small group focusing on the Sermon on the Mount with Nicole and another missionary couple in San Juan.  It has been nice to connect in this way.

Braegan just started her third week of school.  Each week has gotten a little easier for her.  She was working on her vowels in Spanish last week and now is reciting the months of the year.  It seems that she is finding her “Spanish voice” as she told us she lost it when we first returned in June.  It is encouraging to see her enthusiasm to be with her peers and embrace the culture.  It has been nice to get into her school routine with out the responsibilities of teams at the same time.  By the time our next team arrives at the end of September, she will be a Preschool pro!

In my post at the end of July, I asked for prayers as we were going to have our appointment for renewal of our residency.  Everything went smoothly and we are legal for another year!

Prayer requests

Anxiety: I’m still struggling with anxious thoughts, reading has helped me to redirect my anxious energy as well.

Fall team season: We have a busy fall season of teams starting on September 23rd and going through the week before Christmas.  We also have visitors throughout the next couple of months as well.

Braegan: As she continues to adjust to school and learn Spanish.
