Here comes the long awaited update on our residency process. When we submitted the initial paperwork a year ago to begin the process, we had no idea what all it would require of us. I have compared this adventure to a scavenger hunt, because we have had some idea as to what we are looking for; however, the people reviewing our documents may have another. Here is a link (click on the word) to the Dominican’s Legal site that explains the requirements for becoming a Legal Dominican Resident. As I was looking over the site again today, a key phrase stuck out to me, “The following information is presented only as an informative guide. There may be differences in the actual requirements at the time the person makes the application.” There is not much more that can be said with that statement included:)
We received word from our lawyer yesterday that we have been approved and all of our paperwork has been submitted. We have about 3 more months until we go back to the capital for an appointment to sign paperwork and receive our Dominican identification (Provisional Residence Cards). We are praying that nothing changes between now and then as far as new requirements. We will travel with a document that states that we have been approved and paid all the fees included.
We will be stateside from August 8 through September 20 with stops throughout the Midwest and Atlanta, Georgia. It’s hard to believe that when we fly out next Friday, we will have been in the DR for almost 11 months. The time has flown by, and I feel like so much has happened since we arrived.
We are extremely thankful for the words of encouragement and prayers as we have been working through this process.
Ways you can be praying for us throughout the next several weeks:
-safety as we travel
-our health
-a time of encouragement, refreshment and relaxation during our time away
The next update from us will be coming from the USA.
