So we are wrapping up month #8, and it’s hard to believe that Braegan has now been living in the Dominican Republic longer than she lived in the United States. It’s awesome though. She loves waving and saying “hola” to everyone. This weekend when we were checking in our new group at the hotel, Braegan helped with registration. The girl behind the counter said she thought Braegan would be shy, but instead Braegan ended up “organizing” the desk space behind the counter. She doesn’t seem to know a stranger either, I can’t complain. Her walking has quickly become a run, and there is nothing that is out of reach or sight for her. She keeps us so busy.
I have found that I have had some great quiet time with God since moving to the Dominican. I have done a lot of reading and reflecting. Currently I am reading Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those they Help by Robert D. Lupton. Personally, I’m trying to brainstorm creative ways of empowering Dominicans and the group members that visit.
My recent projects have consisted of wrapping up our pen pal program for the school year, communicating with VBS groups that are coming throughout the summer, recruiting new sponsors for our student sponsorship program, and updating social media.
Jeff has been busy with continuing the 3rd floor construction at Lucille Rupp. They are finishing up the forms for the columns. He is also constructing a cabana on the roof of our apartment. I will post some pictures when it is complete. He looks forward to playing dominoes and hanging out with friends.
As of now, we still do not have residency in the Dominican Republic; however, we are hopeful that the final piece of the puzzle will fall into place in the coming weeks. In order for us to make a trip home to the states, this process must be complete. Our initial stamp in our passport is only good for one entry into the country:) We have faith!!
