A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of visiting a very influential person in my life.  For any of you that have been around Solid Rock for any amount of time, I’m sure you have heard the names Jim and Dorine Smith.  They were a couple of the early visionaries that helped to begin what is now going on in San Juan de la Maguana.  I was able to visit Dorine for a little while, and share a little bit more with her about what Jeff, Braegan and I will be doing during our time in the Dominican.  She shared some stories with us about while Jim and her were serving and even spoke to Braegan in Spanish:) 

My favorite book of the Bible is James, and as I’ve been preparing to go to the DR a verse I have been focusing on is James 1:27, ” Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world”.  This can happen where ever you are.  We are called as Christians to step out of our comfort zones and help others in need.
